The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team beat Lewis 14-10 in Hunter Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
OVERVIEW
The Lions got things rolling early when
Cam Smith assisted
Peter Covington in the first 40 seconds of play. Smith netted one of his own just a few minutes later, making it 2-0 early in the first.
Patrick Kaschalk netted his first of the game before the end of the first as well, making him the new program record holder for most goals in a single season, breaking the previous record of 40 goals from
Carter Collins in 2021.
Adrian Thompson and
Nolan Corker got on the board during the second period, but Lewis also netted two goals, keeping things close. The Lions would get out of the half with a one-point lead, up 5-4 going into the third.
The Flyers gained momentum, however, and outscored the Lions 5-2 during the third period, with Corker and Kaschalk teaming up to net the Lions' two goals. Despite Lewis getting out in front with a four-point lead early on, the Lions closed the gap late in the period, making it 9-7 going into the fourth.
Lewis scored first to open the fourth, extending their lead 10-7, but Lindenwood answered back with four huge goals from Smith, Covington and Thompson, plus
Mason Homer's first of the game. The Lions got ahead 11-10 with under eight to go, and Covington knocked in one more off the assist from Kaschalk. Lindenwood extended their lead even further with two more goals, with Smith and Covington each netting another before the final whistle.
Jony Major went 7-12 from the faceoff circle, while
Michael Miocic won 9-14 of his battles, pairing up to beat the Flyers out of 16-26 faceoffs, which proved to be a huge game-changer for Lindenwood late in the game.
Colin Hunt scooped up a game-leading 10 ground balls, greatly contributing to the Lions' success as well.
Jack Huntington had a strong defensive presence, causing three turnovers, and
Kyle Hebert held down the fort by making eight total saves on the day.
