Men's Lacrosse Wins First GLVC Championship in Program History

The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team brought down the No. 1 seeded Indianapolis Greyhounds in a 13-10 victory in the GLVC Championship on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana.

OVERVIEW
Patrick Kaschalk made quick work of the Greyhounds' defense to get the Lions on the board with an unassisted goal in the first two minutes of play. UIndy would answer back with three more goals before the end of the first period, grabbing an early 3-1 lead.

Kaschalk kept the Lindenwood offense alive, however, scoring first to open the second period as well. Shortly after, the Windsor, Ontario native slotted the assist to Peter Covington, who tied things up at 3-3 with 11:08 left on the clock. The Lions would outscore UIndy 6-1 during the second period, with JP Morris netting the game-winner, Kaschalk scoring twice more, and Nolan Corker putting in his first goal of the game.

The Lions outshot the Greyhounds 28-16 in the first half, creating plenty of offensive chances for themselves despite UIndy's aggressive defending. Lindenwood was better defensively as well, however, scooping up 26 ground balls versus 14 total from the Greyhounds.

The first goal of the third period came from Covington off the assist from Corker, and the Lions sat at a comfortable 8-4 lead until UIndy netted two back-to-back goals, attempting to close the gap. Ryan Kemp found Kaschalk on a perfect pass right across the Greyhounds' net, however, and Kaschalk netted his fifth goal to put the Lions up 9-6.

Cam Smith netted his first of the game to further extend the Lions' lead, but UIndy answered with a goal as well, looking to close back in on the Lions. Kaschalk netted two man-up goals and Smith knocked in another, creating an even greater gap for the Greyhounds to overcome. UIndy put up a fight, netting two quick goals with under two minutes to go, but the Lions held on to secure their first GLVC Championship title in program history.

With the win, Kaschalk broke his third record of the season with the most points in a single game after putting up nine total. The Lions also snapped UIndy's 29 home game win streak, which started all the way back in 2018. It was the longest active home win streak throughout all divisions of the NCAA.
