Women's Wrestling Season Review

The Lindenwood women's wrestling team wrapped up its first full season of NCAA competition with a 7-5 record and a trip to the NCW Wrestling Championships. The Lions placed 11th out of 27 teams at the national event, with Cayden Condit earning All-America honors.
 
The Lions finished in the top five in each of their three open meets this past winter, winning the Lindenwood Open in late November. The Black and Gold eventually earned third at the Southwest Regional, advancing seven to nationals following seven student-athletes placing fifth or better.
 
Lindenwood rattled off five straight dual wins in the middle of the season, including a 39-3 victory against Fontbonne.
 
SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
- Condit finished fourth at the NCW Wrestling Championships in Adrian, Mich., going 5-2 over the weekend with each of her wins coming via pin or technical fall. The Littleton, Colo., product wrapped her freshman campaign with a 35-6 record.

- The Lions were recognized with a team GPA of 3.607, ranking eighth on the NWCA Scholar Team list. Condit earned individual distinction as a Scholar All-American, as did the following student-athletes: Emily Ebsen, Kaycee Fitero, Valeriia Mamleeva, Amanda McAleavey, Julianna Moreno, Jasmine Ward, and Athena Willden.

-  Lindenwood placed sixth at the prestigious NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Ky., in January, which featured eight of the top-12 teams in the NWCA rankings. Condit went 5-0 over the weekend, earning a 9-8 decision over then-No. 3 ranked Asia Nguyen-Smith at 123. Wilden went 4-2 at the event at 136, while Sara Lake picked up a pair of wins by fall at 155.

- Nine Lions finished in the top four at the team's season-opening competition in Adrian, Mich. Lindenwood collected 171.5 points to share third overall, with Condit winning the title at 123. Wilden registered four pins at 136, eventually placing third in the 136 class.
 
FINAL NOTES
The 2021-22 season was head coach Mike Mena's third year at the helm of the Lindenwood women's wrestling program.
 
With Lindenwood's transition to NCAA Division I beginning with the 2022-23 academic year, the Lions' women's wrestling team will compete with a to-be determined schedule. Next year's slate will be announced later this summer.
