The No. 7 Lindenwood women's wrestling team had nine individuals qualify for the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships on Sunday inside Hyland Arena. The Lions claimed second-place at the Region VI meet with a total of 143 points.
OVERVIEW
Fifth-ranked
Caitlyn Jackson took home the 117-pound crown with a perfect 3-0 day. Jackson defeated Norah Swain of McKendree by decision, 8-4 in the title match.
Sara Lake, who ranks third in the 207-pound weight class was the other Lindenwood wrestler to make it to the title bout but came up short finishing in second place.
Sienna Caruso and
Kate Cooper took third place at 103 and 110, respectively. Cooper won three-straight matches and came from the consolation semifinals to earn third.
Hayley Gilson qualified for Nationals with a third-place finish at 124 and she also had three-straight wins to close out her day. Tenth-ranked
Cayden Condit also finished third at 131 and the last two wins came via pin.
At 138,
Marissa Sanabria finished fourth, topping teammate
Kayla Edwards in a no contest.
Rebecca Strong finished in third at 145, and
Makayla Rivera did the same at 180.
Lindenwood wrestlers led the way with 12 pins on the day with Rivera having three. The Lions also had 237 total match points, which was second-most,
