On Sunday, the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) release the weekly football awards which features Lindenwood student-athletes Tyrone Griffin and Logan Seibert.  Griffin was named the OVC Co Defensive Player of the Week, while Seibert earned Co Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
 
Griffin was recognized by the conference for his quality play on the defensive side of the ball, as he led the team with nine total tackles.  The first-year sophomore made two solo stops and registered seven assisted tackles.  Griffin had 0.5 sacks on two different plays, as he helped hold Houston Baptist to just 20 points in the game.  On back-to-back plays in the fourth quarter, Griffin one of his sacks, and broke up a pass to force a field goal attempt which was missed from 45 yards out.  The Brownsburg, Ind. native added a pair of pass breakups in coverage.
 
Seibert was nothing short of clutch in the first win of the season, as the sophomore kicker was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals.  The Belleville, Ill. native scored the first points of the game on a 41-yard field goal in the first quarter.  To close out the opening frame, Seibert knocked in a 44-yard boot to bring the Lions within one point.  In the opening minute of the fourth quarter, Seibert hit another 44-yard field goal to bring the Lions within five points to help set up Lindenwood for the victory in the final minute of the game.
 
The Lions blocked a punt with 28 seconds left, and recovered the ball in the end zone for the game-winning touchdown in the 21-20 win.  The Lions earned their first win as a NCAA Division I program, and their first win over a Division I team since 2011.  Saturday's win is the first season-opening victory for the Lions under head coach Jed Stugart and his staff.  Lindenwood will host Keiser University for the first home game of the season on Saturday at 6 PM at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
