The Lindenwood football team (1-0) will host Keiser University (1-2) on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. for the first home game of the season at Hunter Stadium for Family Day.
The Lions are coming off a thrilling 21-20 victory over Houston Baptist in the first game as a NCAA Division I program. Lindenwood was down by five points when
Jalen Bethany blocked a punt, allowing
Andrew Martin to recover the ball in the end zone with just 28 seconds left. The Lions secured its first win over a Division I team since 2011 when the Lions began their transition to NCAA Division II.
With high-quality performances on Saturday, three Lions were honored with weekly recognition.Â
Tyrone Griffin earned Co Defensive Player of the Week accolades by the OVC, while
Logan Seibert was named Co Specialist of the Week. Martin was dubbed the FedEx Ground FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week by Stats Perform.
Stugart and his staff won their first season opener since coming to St. Charles, Mo. Lindenwood will look to earn its 100th win as a program inside Hunter Stadium. In the last two seasons, the Lions have a combined home record of 9-2.
The past two years have been highlighted by individual and team success, as
Cade Brister is a primary reason. Brister already has his name throughout the Lindenwood football record book, but he's eying two more career marks. With just one more touchdown pass, Brister would take sole possession of the most touchdown passes thrown in school history. The O'Fallon, Mo. native is 581 passing yards away from holding the all-time mark for Lindenwood.
One of the main targets for Brister has been
Payton Rose, who is seven touchdown receptions away from setting the school's all-time mark for receiving touchdowns in a career. Rose is also 578 receiving yards away from taking first place in school history.
