Summit League Releases Swimming and Diving Preseason Poll

On Wednesday, the Summit League released its preseason rankings as voted on by the leagues head coaches. Both the men's and women's teams received high praise entering their first year in the league as the men were picked to finish in a tie for second, earning 38 points and one first place vote, while the women were selected to finish third, garnering 35 total points, just three back of second-place South Dakota.

Elliott Irwin and David Molina-Fregenal eared recognition on the men's side as a preseason swimmer and diver to watch. Irwin, a junior from Canberra, Australia, set a program record in the 100 Fly in 2020 with a time of 43.38. A sophomore diver from Madrid, Spain, Molina-Fregenal broke the program record in the 3-meter dive at the 2021 GLVC Championship. His season-best in the 1-meter dive (11 dives) came in the Drury Invitational, compiling a score of 474.46. He also posted scores of 300.75 in the 1-meter (six dives) and 289.40 in the 3-meter (six dives)

Joselle Mensah and Elle Christie earned individual recognition on the women's team. A year ago, Mensah earned All-American honors and helped the 200 Free Relay team to a second-place finish at the Division II NCAA Championship. Christie placed first in the 100 back (1:05.65) at a dual meet against South Dakota. The senior from Ballwin, Mo. also helped record a first-place 400 Medley Relay time of 3:56.97 in another dual against USD, starting at the first leg.

Lindenwood will look to continue its great success in the Summit League. The women's squad claimed four conference titles at the NCAA Division II level, including three-straight from 2016-19.  In 2020-21, the women's team secured its best finish at the NCAA Championships by taking fourth place.  The men's program collected three conference championships and earned a second-place finish at the 2015-16 National Championships.
