The Lindenwood women's hockey team () fell in overtime by a score of 3-2 to Bemidji State (1-0-0, 0-0-0) in its season-opener on Friday night from Bemidji, Minn.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood opened the game with six of the first eight shot attempts, but it would be the Beavers who would find the back of the net first, taking a 1-0 lead at the 6:43 mark of the opening period. The Lions earned a man advantage just past the halfway point of the first period, but Bemidji State killed it off, keeping its lead. Lindenwood compiled 21 shot attempts to the Beavers 13 but trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.
The Lions killed off the reminder of a Bemidji powerplay to begin the period, keeping the score 1-0.
Natalie Ferenc and the Lindenwood defense put together a strong period, as the West Bloomfield native made 15 saves, while the Lindenwood defense blocked another 19 shots.
Rachel Goff tied the game, 1-1 at the 13:34 mark of the second frame, scoring Lindenwood's first goal of the season.
Sarah Davies and Thea Jorgensen picked up an assists on the score. It was the first point of her Lindenwood career for Davies. Shortly after, Lindenwood killed off another Beaver man advantage late in the frame and kept the score at 1-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Bemidji State regained the lead early in the third period, going up 2-1 just 1:52 into the final frame. After the goal, Lindenwood made a push, tallying eight of the next 10 shot attempts, while earning a powerplay, but they were unable to score The Lions tied the game just before the halfway mark of the third period as Davies picked up her second point of the night assisted by
Morgan Neitzke and
Quinn McLaren at the 9:54 mark. Neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal as the game would need overtime to decide its result.
In the extra session, Bemidji scored at the 1:30 mark, picking up a 302 win to open the season.
