The Lindenwood women's hockey team (0-3-0, 0-0-0 CHA) dropped the series opener against No. 5 Wisconsin (2-1-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) by a score of 6-0 on Thursday night from Madison, Wis. Ferenc finished the game with a career-high 66 saves, which is the fourth highest single game total in CHA history.
GAME OVERVIEW
Wisconsin got on the board at the 3:32 mark of the opening period, taking a 1-0 lead. Despite the early goal,
Natalie Ferenc and the defense buckled down. The senior netminder compiled 16 saves, while the Lions blocked another 18 shots across the first period, led by
Quinn McLaren, who had three. Lindenwood trailed 1-0 at the intermission.
Lindenwood killed off a pair of early penalties in the second frame, including a five-on-three. The Badgers would break through shortly after, however taking a 2-0 lead just before the midway point of the second period. Two minutes later, Wisconsin would extend its lead to 3-0. In the period, Ferenc recorded 31 saves, bringing her total up to 47 through two periods. The 31 saves in one period is a CHA record. The Lindenwood defense blocked another 28 shots as the Lions trailed 3-0 after 40 minutes of play.
Wisconsin added three more goals in the final period, picking up the victory in the series opener. Ferenc finished with a career-high 66 saves, while Lindenwood was a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.
