The Lindenwood women's hockey team (3-23-0, 3-9-0 CHA) fell by a score of 6-3 to No. 12 Penn State (20-8-1, 10-1-1 CHA) on Saturday afternoon from University Park, Pa.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood didn't allow a shot on goal until the 7:38 mark, outshooting the Nittany Lions 5-0 in that span. The Lions were strong defensively in the opening 20 minutes, allowing only four shots on frame in the first period. Lindenwood grabbed the lead late, as
Chloe Corbin took the puck behind the net and found
Morgan Neitzke who buried the opportunity from the slot at the 17:26 mark of the period.
Sydney Rarick also picked up an assist on the games first goal. The Lions took that 1-0 lead into the locker room.
The Nittany Lions compiled nine of the first 10 shots on goal in the middle frame, but
Natalie Ferenc stopped them all. This allowed the Lions to double their lead to 2-0 at the 14:03 mark. Neitzke and Rarick battled for a puck behind the net and Neitzke found Rarick put one in the back of the net. Penn State cut into the Lindenwood lead, making it 2-1 at 10:54 before finding the equalizer just over two minutes later. Ferenc ended the period with 20 saves as the game was tied 2-2 after 40 minutes of play.
Penn State took the lead quickly in the third period, going up 3-2 less than four minutes into the final frame. The Nittany Lions added three more goals throughout the third period to extend their lead to 5-2. Lindenwood would grab a late goal as Thea Jorgensen picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and put one past the Nittany Lion netminder.
Rachel Goff picked up an assist on the score. The Lions would fall 6-3.
