Women's Hockey Downed by Minnesota State

The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team (2-17-0, 2-4-0 CHA) dropped the first game of its series with Minnesota State (10-11-0, 5-11-0 WCHA) by a score of 8-0 on Friday night from Centene Community Ice Center.

GAME OVERVIEW
The Mavericks got on the board first at the 1:37 mark as the puck deflected off a Lindenwood stick at the 1:37 mark of the opening period. Lindenwood settled into the game and looked for the equalizer as the top line of Morgan Neitzke, Chloe Corbin and Rachel Goff were all over the ice in the first 20 minutes of play. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Mavericks, however. The was until the 17-minute mark, as Minnesota State doubled its lead to 2-0. The Mavericks went on to score one more late goal, taking a 3-0 advantage into the locker room. In total Lindenwood compiled 11 shots on goal in the opening frame.

Minnesota State started fast again in the middle frame, going up 4-0 early in the second period. The Lions kept battling, however as Lindenwood compiled 16 more shots in the second frame but were unable to get on the board. Mankato went on to add three more goals in the middle period to take a commanding 7-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Lindenwood earned an early powerplay opportunity in the third period looking to get on the scoreboard. The Mankato penalty kill was strong in this one, preserving the shutout. The Lions earned another man advantage chance late in the frame but were unable to score. Lindenwood finished the night with 37 shots on goal but fell 8-0.
