The Lindenwood football team (3-4, 1-2 BS/OVC) battled on Saturday afternoon but lost to Charleston Southern (3-3, 1-0 BS/OVC) by a score of 24-10 from Charleston S.C.
GAME OVERVIEW
Charleston Southern got on the board first after a solid punt return gave the Buccaneers good field position. The Bucs would go into the end zone a few plays later, going up 7-0. The Buccaneers would add a field goal on the next offensive possession and take a 10-0 lead halfway through the first quarter. The Lindenwood defense stepped up on the next series as
Jayson Lowe made a big tackle on fourth and short to give the Lions the ball back. The Lions were unable to take advantage of the great field position and would trail by 10 after one quarter.
Both teams' defenses continued the strong play throughout the second quarter, exchanging stops across the middle frame. The Buccaneers were able to find the end zone with less than a minute to go in the quarter, which extended their lead to 17-0, an advantage they would carry into halftime.
The Lindenwood defense opened the third quarter with a quick three-and-out. On the ensuing offensive possession, the Lions went on a 9-play 78-yard drive which was capped off by a
Jeff Caldwell 28-yard touchdown catch to cut the lead to 17-7 with just under nine minutes to go in the quarter. The Lindenwood defense continued to stand tall in the quarter, getting a few more stops. Lindenwood caught a break late in the quarter as a punt was muffed by the Buccaneer player and recovered by the Lions. Lindenwood ended up getting a 24-yard field goal from
Logan Seibert to cut the lead to 17-10 and they would trail by that score after three quarters.
Charleston Southern opened the final frame with a scoring drive, which restored a 14-point lead. Lindenwood built a good drive in attempt to answer the score, but the Buccaneer defense held strong in the red zone to maintain the two-score lead. Charleston Southern would salt the game away and pick up the 24-10 victory.

QUOTABLEÂ
"Definitely a frustrating loss",said head coach
Jed Stugart. "I thought our guys handled a lot of adversity that happened in this game, but we talked early in fall camp, we can't forfeit opportunities to win.  We dug a hole early and when you do, you have to stop digging.  We'll get some rest and heal up over this bye week and we need to break the shovel."
UP NEXT
