Men’s Hockey Plays St. Thomas to 4-4 Tie

The Lindenwood men's ice hockey team (1-2-2) and the St. Thomas Tommies each proved to be tough competition on Friday night. Both teams played solid defense and took advantage of scoring opportunities. The power behind the Lions tonight? Goalie Trent Burnham. Facing 59 shots, Burnham recorded 55 saves for Lindenwood.

"This was a wild one. My team showed a considerable amount of pride," said Head Coach Rick Zombo.

In the first period, St. Thomas scored twice to take a two-point lead into the second. At the 9:58 mark of the second, Kieran Ruscheinski scored the first Lion goal on a pass from Kabore Dunn. Less than a minute later, (10:21) Kyle Jeffers got into the action, scoring the goal to tie everything at two, with Ruscheinski being credited with the assist. At 14:38, the Tommies broke the tie to take a 3-2 lead into the third and final period in regulation.

At 1:44 in the third, Shane Lavelle scored to tie the game once again. Austin Fraser is credited with the assist. At 2:32, UST scored again to go up 4-3 over LU. Adam Conquest's goal from Mitch Allard was right on time and propelled the teams into an overtime situation. The overtime period was scoreless resulting in a 4-4 final.
