It was a phenomenal effort by the Lindenwood University swimming and diving teams on day two of the University of Kansas meet.
Assistant Coach Canaan Campbell stated, "I liked the energy the team came out with on day two. We were down a few guys and had to shuffle some event around and was proud of how the team handled that. The women's team raced well against two strong opponents and are on a good trajectory for where we want to be for the championship season."
The Lindenwood women's team of Stephanie Marks, Kornelia Buszka, Joselle Mensah and Maja Piotrowicz grabbed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay. On the men's side, Lindenwood's Lance Godard, Ondrej Dusa, Trevor Danner and Piotr Kowalczyk finished in first with a time of 1:23.72. Jose Ochoa, Nick Williams and Adam Szczerba finished in first, second and third respectively with times of 4:10.23, 4:12.52, and 4:14.19 in the 400-yard IM.
Dusa took first place in the men's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.96. In the women's 200-yard backstroke, Stephanie Marks finished in third with a time of 2:06.25. On the men's side, Jacob Noble also recorded a third-place finish with a time of 1:58.10.
The 100-yard butterfly event showed Kowalczyk (50.49) and Godard (50.95) finished in first and second. Jaxson Bradburn and Adam Szczerba completed the men's 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:11.10 and 5:13.38 for second and third place.
"We had a lot of progress this week from the divers. LU men placed 1,2,3 both days and we saw a solid performance on Friday from freshmen, Bennet Loving, who won one meter diving and then placed second on three meter on Saturday. We are looking forward to seeing more progress with our divers moving into our Tri meet with Mizzou and SIU on November 3," said Cortney Teague, Assistant Coach.
Noah Boyd, Bennet Loving and David Molina-Fregenal swept first, second third in the men's 3-mtr diving with 261.90, 259.45 and 249.85 respectively. Mattia Giurgevich finished in second place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.37. For the 400-yard freestyle relay two Lindenwood teams finished in the top three. In second with a time of 3:07.47 were Kowalczyk, Dusa, Godard and Giurgevich; while Szczerba, Max Wetteland, Ryan Boeding and Trevor Danner recorded a time of 3:12.02 for third.
Lindenwood will be back in action on October 27th, at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Meet time is slated for 3:00 pm.
