Women’s Hockey Wins 6-3 Over RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – On Friday evening, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team took on RIT to open conference play. The Lions would win 6-3 over the Tigers, after scoring three goals in the final period.

GAME OVERVIEW
At the 18:34 mark in the first period, the Tigers would get on the score board. The Lions would quickly rebound, scoring a goal of their own with less than 15 minutes left to go in the period, coming from a Kaitlin Finnegan shot assisted by Morgan Neitzke. Finnegan would tally her first goal of the year. Strong goalie play would keep both teams scoreless for the remainder of the period. Going into the second period, the score would be 1-1.

In the second period, once again, the Tigers would start off hot from the get-go, tallying a goal less than two minutes into the period. With less than 17 minutes in the period, Neitzke would score for the Lions on the power-play, to tie the game up at 2-2. While still on the power-play, the Lions would score again a minute later, coming from Sydney Rarick. Up to this point, the Lions would earn their first lead of the game, leading 3-2. With eight minutes remaining in the period, RIT would tie the game up.

In the third period, the Lions would take back the lead with less than 13 minutes left to go in the game, coming from a Neitzke goal. Seven minutes later, Chloe Corbin would get on the scoreboard, extending the lions lead to two. The Lions would score once more to extend their lead to three, coming from a Sarah Davies one-timer.
The Lions moved to 4-5-0 on the season after this matchup. Natalie Ferenc started in net for the Lions making 30 stops.

QUOTABLE
"We are very happy to get our first conference win tonight. It was a gritty win, and our team worked the whole 60 minutes. We are looking forward to another tough matchup here tomorrow afternoon", said head coach Taylor Wasylk.
