On Thursday afternoon, the Lindenwood field hockey team (3-6) faced off against the Maryville Saints (4-4). The Lions would come out victorious in this affair, winning 2-0.
MATCH OVERVIEW
In the first period, both teams would remain off the scoreboard. The Lions would control possession in the first period, taking six shots with two of them being on net. Strong defense by the Lions would keep the Saints shotless. The match would be tied 0-0 going into the second frame. In the second period, the Lions would find the back of the net, coming from
Makenna Rugani shot, assisted by
Izzy Folan in the 20
th minute. Rugani would record her first goal of the year. The Lions would limit the Saints to two shots. The Lions would lead 1-0 going into the second half.
In the third period, both teams were held off the scoring column. The Lions would lead 1-0, going into the final frame. One minute into the fourth period, the Lions would get on the board once again, coming from an
Alice van Hemelen shot. Hemelen would tally her third goal on the year. The Lions would tally their second shutout on the year.
Leah Brozovich would start in net for the Lions making one save and giving up zero goals.
Kyla Cooke would come into relieve Brozovich. Cooke would make one save on zero goals against.
