MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MINN. – On Friday night, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team took on St. Thomas in a thriller of a game. The Lions would come back from a three goal deficit, but would eventually fall to the Tommies 4-3, after a late goal in the latter seconds of the third period.
GAME OVERVIEW
In the first period, the Tommies controlled the offensive front. The Tommies would score three consecutive goals in the first period, leading 3-0 going into the second period. The Lions would have seven shots on net in the first period.
Natalie Ferenc was a force to be reckoned with, making twelve saves in the first period for the Lions.
In the second period, the Lions would come out firing, bringing a different level of energy. With less than nine minutes left to go in the period, the Lions would close the deficit to two, coming from a
Gigi Pora shot, assisted by
Sarah Davies and
Quinn McLaren, off the power-play. Three minutes later, Pora scored once again for the Lions off a one-timer, assisted by
Morgan Neitzke and Davies. The Lions would trail 3-2 at the end of the second period.
In the third period, both teams would remain off the scoreboard for the first half of the final frame. With seven minutes left,
Quinn McLaren would score the equalizer for the Lions assisted by
Molly Henderson. With fifteen seconds left, the Tommies would find the back of the net, to retake the lead. The Tommies would keep the Lions off the scoreboard for the final fifteen seconds of the period, to win 4-3.
Ferenc started in net for the Lions making 39 saves, with 16 of them coming in the third period. After this matchup, the Lions would fall to 2-3 on the season.
