SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On Friday night, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team took on Syracuse in a tightly contested conference game. The Lions would pull out the 4-3 win, after scoring four goals in the first two periods.
GAME OVERVIEW
Six minutes into the first period, the Lions would find the back of the net from a
Molly Henderson shot assisted by
Rachel Goff. With about eight minutes left in the period, Syracuse scored the equalizer to tie the game up at 1-1. The Lions would bounce back four minutes later, finding the back of the net once again to regain the 2-1 lead. Goff would score the second goal for the Lions, assisted by Henderson. Going into the second period, the Lions would lead 2-1. The Lions in the period tallied seven shots and
Natalie Ferenc made 16 stops.
In the second period, the Lions started off strong. Three minutes into the period,
Sarah Davies would score off a rebound during a power play effort, extending the Lions lead to two.
Morgan Neitzke and
Sydney Rarick would assist Davies' goal. Syracuse would not shy away, scoring a goal just three minutes later to cut the Lion's lead to one. Not more than a minute later, Neitzke would find the back of the net to bring the Lion's lead back to two. Both teams would be held scoreless for the remainder of the period, with the Lion's leading, going into the final frame. The Lion's would have 13 shots in the second period, while only giving up four shots.
In the third period, both teams would find themselves scoreless for much of the period. The Orange would score late in the period, to cut the Lion's lead to one, but would not be enough. Ferenc would make 18 stops in the final frame.
Ferenc started in net for the Black and Gold, making 37 stops. After this matchup, the Lions moved to 5-8-0 on the season and 2-3-0 in conference play.
