Women’s Ice Hockey Sweeps Stonehill at Home

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – On Saturday afternoon, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team took on Stonehill in their second matchup of the weekend. The Lions would pull out a 6-2 win after having a strong second and third period, completing a 2-0 sweep over Stonehill.

MATCH OVERVIEW
The Skyhawks came out firing to start off the period, scoring just three minutes into the period, to gain the early 1-0 lead. The Lions would answer back quickly, scoring two minutes later to the game up at 1-1. Sarah Davies would tally the goal for the Lions on the power-play, assisted by Morgan Neitzke and Rachel Goff. With 12:29 left in the period, the Skyhawks would score once again to regain the one goal lead. The Lions would once again bounce back, scoring with 6:40 left to go in the frame. Olivia Grabianowski would register the goal for the Lions. Quinn McLaren and Davies would tally the assists. Going into intermission the Lions would be tied 2-2 to the Skyhawks.


In the second period, the Lions would score right out the get-go, scoring just two minutes into the period. Goff would be the one to find the back of the net for the Lions in this circumstance, putting the Lions up one, registering their first lead of the game. The Lions would score twice more to end the period, coming from Neitzke, with one of them coming off the power-play. The Lions would lead 5-2 going into the final frame.


In the third period, Gigi Pora would score off a pass from Kaitlin Finnegan to extend the Lions lead to four at the 3:54 mark of the frame. The Lions would keep the Skyhawks scoreless for the rest of the frame.


Ava McIllmurray started in net for the Lions, making 18 saves and registering her first career win in net as a Lion. After this matchup the Black and Gold moved to one game under .500.
