MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – On Friday night, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team took on Mercyhurst in their first matchup of two. In a high scoring game, the Lions would fall 8-5.
GAME OVERVIEW
27 seconds into the first period, the Lakers would find the back of the net to gain the early 1-0 lead. With 17 minutes left in the period,
Quinn McLaren would scorch one past the Laker goaltender from the point, to tie the game up at 1-1. McLaren's goal would be assisted by
Morgan Neitzke and
Sarah Davies, while on the power play. Two minutes later the Lakers would score their second goal of the night, while on the power play. With 3:10 left in the period, McLaren would score once again to tie the game up at 2-2.
Olivia Grabianowski and Davies would grab assists on McLaren's second goal of the night. Going into the first intermission, the Lions would be tied 2-2 with the Lakers.
In the second period, scoring would come quite frequently. Two minutes into the period, the Lakers would score, bringing their lead back to one. The Lions would roar back, scoring one of their own at 8:02 mark in the period, coming from
Sidney Jackel assisted by
Chloe Corbin. Jackel would score her first career goal as a Lion in this contest. The Lakers would rebound, scoring two of their own to jump to a two-goal lead. The Lions would score two straight goals, both coming from Neitzke, to end the period tied up at 5-5.
In the third period, the frame was very up and down with both teams creating quality scoring chances. In the latter half of the frame, the Lakers scored three straight goals to end the game, with two of them came while the Lions net was empty.
After this matchup, the Lions moved to 7-9-1 on the season, and 2-4-1 in conference.
Natalie Ferenc and
Emily Finach both spent time in net for the Lions making a combined 29 stops.
