Let's get SWIMMING!!! The Lindenwood swimming and diving teams are in the deepest part of their season and not only are the meets coming back-to-back, but the competition is getting fierce. On the women's side, the Lions split for the day, falling 226-73 to Indiana State and decimating the University of Indianapolis 254-14. For the men, Lindenwood fell 172-128 to the University of Indianapolis.
In the women's 400-yard Medley Relay, the Lindenwood team comprised of Stephanie Marks, Beata Maruszcyk, Kayla Bulseco and Joselle Mensah came in third with a time of 3:55.80. On the men's side, LU's Piotr Kowalczyk, Johan Cue Carillo, Patryk Winiatowski and Ondrej Dusa took second in 3:23.28. Megan Hollaar finished the women's 1000-yard freestyle in 10:45.44 for a third-place finish. Matheo Mateos-Mongelos set the tone for the men with a first-place time of 9:44.79.
Kathryn Chaves finished the women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.29 for third. Winiatowski and Adam Szczerba demanded their respect in the men's event (200-yard freestyle) with a 1, 2 finish in 1:42.50 and 1:42.95, respectively. With a backstroke to be envied, Maja Piotrowicz recorded a first-place finish in 57.75. Not to be outdone, Lindenwood took first and second in the 100-Yard breaststroke. Cue Carrillo and Mattia Giurgevich finished in 55.27 and 57.47 respectively.
In the women's 200-yard butterfly, LU's Nina Tasic (2:16.89) claimed second while Lucy Price (2:18.12) took third. On the men's side, Lance Godard finished in 1:51.67 for first and Nick Williams claimed third in 1:55.58. The women's 50-yard freestyle saw, Piotrowicz take third in 24:44.
Diving, the men dove into second and third place in the 1mtr event with scores of 310.40 and 282.20. The athletes to claim those spots are David Molina-Fregenal and Bennet Loving. Selena Corona jumped onto third place in the women's 3 mtr event with a score of 215.35. On the men's side, Molina-Fregenal scored 309.70 for second and Noah Boyd's score of 302.15 landed him in third.
In the men's 100-yard freestyle, Winiatowski recorded a third-place finish with a time of 46.17. Piotrowicz claimed the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.80, while Jose Ochoa scored second with a time of 1:52.17 for the men. Maruszczyk finished the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:23.71 for a third-place finish. Tasbasi (2:04.38) recorded second while Cue Carillo (2:11.09) grabbed third for the men.
Hollaar stepped up for Lindenwood, finishing in second with a time of 5:14.19 in the women's 500-yard freestyle. Lindenwood's men swept their competition, with Mateos-Mongelos claiming first (4:40.17), Szczerba grabbed second (4:40.25) and Jaxon Bradburn recorded a third-place finish (4:45.44). In the men's 200-yard IM, Godard (1:53.30) and Winiatowski (1:54.00) took second and third. And because at it's core, swimming and diving is a team effort, it is only fitting to wrap with the 200-yard freestyle relay. Lindenwood's Piotrowicz, Buszka, Joselle Mensah and Kayla Bulseco claimed second in 1:36.62. For the men, Dusa, Kowalczyk, Danner and Tasbasi claimed third with a time of 1:24.24.
Lindenwood Swimming and Diving will wrap their fall semester campaign at the Mizzou Invitational, November 15-17, 2023, in Columbia, Missouri.
