Lindenwood's women volleyball will take on Southern Indiana on Thursday and Friday this week to conclude their home regular season schedule. The Lions sit in third place in the Ohio Valley Conference with nine wins. Thursday will also be senior night for the Lions.
Last weekend, Lindenwood picked up their first two match sweep of the season in OVC play with two wins against the Tigers of Tennessee State. The first match was a sweep for the Lions with the second win coming in four sets.
Southern Indiana has had a turnaround season after only having one win last year. They have posted 10 wins during their second Division I season under first year head coach Jeffrey Aucoin including six OVC wins.
The Lions were picked to finish seventh this season in the OVC during the preseason voting. USI was picked to finish in 11th during the preseason and had Leah Anderson made the All-OVC preseason team.
Weekend Recap
Lindenwood picked up two critical wins last weekend as they traveled to Tennessee State for two matches in Nashville, Tenn. The Lions captured their third sweep of OVC play during Friday's match and added another four set win on Saturday.
Addy McAleer was a force at the net with a team high 12 kills on a .296 hitting percentage on Friday.
Nyah Wilson and
Anna Kraemer both were active as the outsides with 10 kills each. Lindenwood had six players with at least four kills.
After a rough start for the Lions in the first set (down 5-1 early), Lindenwood came back to take the set by a final score of 26-24. Wilson led the group in the first with four kills while Kraemer added another three.
The Lions' offense was especially dangerous from the service line with three aces all coming from different players.
Jade Roth picked up four block assists to lead a group that had four total blocks in the set.
Allie Otten and
Abby VanBuskirk played a huge part in the offense on Friday picking up 21 and 12 assists respectively.
Rebecca Janke added five kills with Roth and
Ashley Geluck picking up four each.
Jessie Seidel did it all on Friday picking up 13 digs and a season high seven aces.
Rebecca Janke led the group that posted 58 kills and a .302 hitting percentage on Saturday. Janke had a team-high 14 kills (most in eight matches) and hit .423 on 26 attempts while adding five service aces. She also led the way on defense with four blocks.
Nyah Wilson was one kill shy of her 12th double-double, notching nine kills and 10 digs.
Lindenwood controlled the first set picking up a 25-18 victory. The Lions offense was in effect early picking up 14 kills as a squad on a .303 hitting percentage. Five Lions had multiple kills in the first set including four from Janke.
The Lions defense did exactly what it has been doing over the weekend forcing Tennessee State into a .036 hitting percentage and only nine kills. LU also had three blocks and two aces in the first set.
Lindenwood bounced back in the third taking a 2-1 advantage with a 25-15 set win. Early on in the third was a back and forth set with five tie scores but the Lions took control and won by double digits. Janke added another four to her total while VanBuskirk added six assists. Otten also added four assists and four digs in the third.
The Lions would come out victorious this weekend with a 3-1 win on Saturday and a fourth set score of 25-20. Lindenwood put up an astounding 18 kills on an efficient .361 hitting percentage. Freshman
Anna Kraemer and Wilson both put up four kills each in the fourth. Seven different Lions put down a kill in the score sheet during the fourth.
Kramer ended the match with 10 kills giving her back-to-back double digit outings.
Jade Roth and
Addy McAleer also added nine kills each. Otten ended the afternoon with 24 assists while VanBuskirk added another 23. Libero
Jessie Seidel added 13 digs in Saturday's win.
OVC Top Ten
Jessie Seidel has been one of the leaders on defense in the OVC picking up the fourth most digs in the conference (464) and has the fifth best digs per set average with a 4.69 d/s. She also now ranks eighth in service aces per set with an average of 0.36.
Rebecca Janke continues to be efficient with her swings this season ranking seventh in the OVC in hitting percentage with a .294. Of qualified hitters in that category, she has the sixth most kills with 251 this season.
Allie Otten also ranks in the top ten in assists this season ranking seventh with an average of 6.51 per set. She has a total of 644 assists, needing just 42 to break her personal best in a season.
Player To Watch
Amber Schade will be the only graduating senior from the 2023 Lindenwood volleyball team. Schade has 249 career kills for the Lions including a personal best 109 during the 2021 season. This year, she has appeared in six matches and put up a season best four kills vs. Morehead State.
