ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood softball team dropped two games at ULM's "Best on the Bayou" tournament on Friday in Monroe, Louisiana.
GAME ONE OVERVIEW
The Lions had a tough season-opening assignment in facing the Houston Christian Huskies for the first Division I game in program history.
After five-innings, the Lions were unable to make the comeback from the 0-8 deficit despite hits from
Mya Bethany (2),
Karli Goocher (1) and
Irelynn West (1).
Amanda Weyh was credited with the loss on the mound, pitching all five innings for Lindenwood.
GAME TWO OVERVIEW
Lindenwood was Western Michigan's first opponent of the year, and the Broncos were able to knock in one run in the first inning to kick things off.
It wouldn't be until the fifth inning that the Lions would replace their zero on the scoreboard with a one. At the bottom of the fifth,
Lauren Pelton singled to left field and
Theresa Snaidauf came in to pinch run for Pelton.
Tori Hatton's at-bat would be enough for Snaidauf to advance to second, then went to third shortly after on a passed ball.
Morgan Gersch would fly out to third, and Snaidauf would bring it home for the Lions' first Division I (unearned) run.
Run two came at the bottom of the sixth, this time kickstarted by a single from
Dallis Darnell.
Irelynn West would then follow up with a double, and
Whitney Kinser would ultimately be the driving force to send Darnell home. Kinser advanced on an error from Western Michigan's third base and the Lions would trail 2-6 heading into the seventh.
