Baseball Earns First Division I Victory in Comeback Fashion

THIBODAUX, La. --The Lindenwood baseball team (1-1) rallied from down 2-1 in the eighth inning to win in breathtaking fashion, scoring two runs in the ninth to earn a 3-2 victory over Nicholls State (1-1) on Saturday.

Freshman Easton Rakers (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Lindenwood. The right-hander went 1.2 shutout innings while giving up one hit, allowing one walk and striking out one. Sophomore Eli Brown also made an impact on the mound for the Lions, starting the ballgame and throwing 5.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Junior Brett Bowers led the way offensively for the Lions, going 2-for-2 in the ballgame. Junior Tyson Ludwig put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with an RBI. Senior Joe Copeland also chipped in, going 1-for-4 for Lindenwood with an RBI.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Lions first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Lindenwood got an RBI single from Copeland, scoring sophomore Marcus Heusohn from second base.

The Colonels broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the ninth inning, when the Lions got back on the scoreboard. Lindenwood brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Ludwig's single, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Lions. The score remained 3-2 for the rest of the game, as Lindenwood held on for the win.

» The Lions out-hit the Colonels at a 6-4 clip.

» Lindenwood pitchers limited Nicholls State to just 1-for-11 (.091) with runners in scoring position.
» Lindenwood pitchers faced 37 Nicholls State hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and 11 fly balls while striking out six.
» Bowers led the Lions at the plate, going 2-for-2.
» Nicholls State was led offensively by junior Edgar Alvarez, who went 1-for-4 with a double.
