ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's basketball team was edged in a close 62-67 loss to Morehead State on Saturday afternoon in Kentucky.
"We stress small details and the importance of each possession, and this game came down to executing 1 or 2 possessions better," said Head Coach Katie Falco. "We lost our focus at times in the second half, but still had a chance to tie it late in the game. Proud of the efforts it took to put ourselves in that position. We had longer stretches of positive play this game."
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions took a strong 19-12 lead after the first 10 minutes of play, looking strong against the Eagles on both sides of the ball. Various Lions contributed offensively, with points coming from four different players in the first.
The second quarter still showcased a strong Lindenwood lead, with the scoreboard reading 38-29 heading into halftime. The Eagles struggled to close in and the Lions were shooting well, compiling a 53.8% field goal and 57.1% three-point percentage as a team throughout the quarter.
Morehead was able to knock down more shots in the third, seemingly using their halftime talk as a time to significantly reset, as they responded much better to the Lions' game plan this quarter. The score would still have Lindenwood in the lead, but this time, by a much narrower margin, only up four points heading into the final quarter of play.
The Eagles finally took the lead around the 8:40 mark in the fourth quarter, going up 48-49 and looking to keep the Lions in a deficit. Despite strong effort from the visiting Lions, Morehead was able to hold their very narrow lead on their home floor, edging the Lions by a mere five points before the final whistle blew.
