ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood women's basketball team was edged in a close 62-67 loss to SEMO on Thursday evening at home.
Our players played so hard and I am very proud of our grit and toughness," said Head Coach
Katie Falco. "The way we compete and keep believing says so much about the character of our team!"
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions looked strong in the first quarter, already starting off in a much better fashion than when they last met up with the Redhawks back on January 12. Lindenwood shot 50% from the floor and 80% from behind the arc, showing hot-shooting SEMO that they were not backing down from the fight tonight. The scoreboard would read 20-20 heading into the second, making for quite the interesting matchup after the first 10 minutes of play.
SEMO got out in front with a slight lead in the second, however, pushing things to a 32-38 score before heading into halftime.
Devin Fuhring led the way for the Lions offensively at half with her 12 points, while
Mary McGrath held down the fort defensively with five total rebounds.
The third quarter would end with the Lions trailing by just a mere five points, which would be the same deficit that would ultimately allow the Redhawks to walk away with the victory in the end.
Makayla Wallace started heating up from all over the floor, however, adding five more points to her eight points in the first half. The graduate transfer would go on to reach a new career and season high with her 19 total points, adding six more to her stat line in the final quarter of play.
Along with Wallace's breakout performance, McGrath boasted another double-double night, making that her fifth of the season and second in a row. The sophomore standout recorded 14 total points and 12 total rebounds on the night, greatly contributing on both sides of the ball.
Brooke Woodyard also had a strong 10-point performance, highlighted by the huge three-pointer that tied things up in the final seconds of the first quarter. The freshman also had a great night on the boards with eight total rebounds, which was the second-highest number for the Lions in that category.
