Women's Hockey Blanked by Mercyhurst on Saturday

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (5-25-0, 5-11-0 CHA) fell by a score of 2-0 to Mercyhurst (10-13-2, 11-3-2 CHA) in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon from Erie, Pa.

GAME OVERVIEW
Julia Maguire was strong between the pipes in the opening period, stopping all 12 shots against. The Mercyhurst netminder was equally up to the task, making nine saves across the first 20 minutes as neither team was able to find the back of the net, seeing the score remain 0-0 after 20 minutes of play.

Maguire continued her strong play in the middle frame stopping the first 14 shots against in the second period. Mercyhurst finally broke through, however, putting home a rebound at the 11:28 mark of the period. Lindenwood earned two power plays in the second period, including one late, but were unable to convert as the Lions trailed 2-0 after two periods. Lindenwood blocked 12 shots in the frame, led by Sena Takenaka who had three.

The Lions put the puck toward the net in the final period, compiling 24 shot attempts toward the Mercyhurst net. The Lakers maintained their one-goal lead until the 13:43 mark of the period when they doubled their lead to 2-0. Lindenwood made a late push, compiling 11 out of the last 12 shot attempts of the game, but were unable to find the back of the net in what finished as a 2-0 game.

UP NEXT
The Lions will get ready for the CHA tournament next week. Lindenwood will take on the top seed Penn State in a best-of-three series February 24-26 in University Park, Pa.
