The Lindenwood women's hockey team (5-26-0, 5-11-0 CHA) dropped the first game of its CHA semifinal series with Penn State (25-8-2, 14-1-1 CHA) by a score of 4-1 on Friday afternoon from University Park, Pa.
GAME OVERVIEW
There were only two shots between the two teams during the first six minutes of play, but
Julia Maguire made a key sprawling save to keep the score level at 0-0. Penn State earned a powerplay shortly after and Maguire and the defense held strong, killing it off. In the opening frame, the Lions won 60 percent of the draws, led by
Chloe Corbin who had three. The game remained scoreless after one period of play.
Penn State got on the board at the 6:08 mark of the middle frame, grabbing the 1-0 lead. The Nittany Lions added two more goals before the halfway point of the period to go up 3-0. Lindenwood kept battling, however as late in the period, a shot by
Sydney McAsh was blocked but
Olivia Grabianowski pounced on the rebound to cut the deficit to 3-1 at the 17:54 mark and give Lindenwood some momentum headed into the final frame.
Penn State regained the three-goal advantage early in the final frame, going up 4-1. Lindenwood was unable to get any closer on the day as the Lions fell by that score in the series opener.
