Men’s Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Marquette

The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team (0-1, 0-0 ASUN) played in their first NCAA Division I game against the Marquette University Golden Eagles in Milwaukee, Wisc., on Saturday morning. The Lions would drop their matchup against Marquette by a score of 17-2.

Game Overview
The Golden Eagles took the first lead of the game, scoring at the 10:31 mark. Lindenwood would answer with one of their own at the 7:51 mark, coming from Freshman Wesley Scurci scoring his first collegiate goal as well as the first Lindenwood goal in Division I. The Golden Eagles would tally six consecutive goals to end the first quarter with Golden Eagles edging the Lions by a score of 7-1. In the second quarter, the scoring was stalled, only seeing two tallies in the period coming both from Marquette to make the score 9-1.

In the third quarter, Lindenwood would start off the scoring of the second half coming from a Ryan Kemp goal just 47 seconds in, closing the deficit to 9-2. Marquette would strike back notching the next three goals, ending the quarter with a 12-2 lead. The Golden Eagles would control the fourth quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to end the game.

Sophomore AJ Preachuk started the game in goal for Lindenwood playing forty-seven and a half minutes, stopping six of 21 shots he faced. Senior Blake Nolan would relieve Preachuk in the fourth quarter at the 12:33 mark, stopping one of three shots he faced.  

Scurci and Kemp were the lone scorers for the Lions  with one a goal. Jack Huntington led the team in caused turnovers with four, Evan Janiec and Jake Hartje both were tied for most groundballs for the Lions with four.
