Men's Hockey Suffers Overtime Loss in Season Finale

The Lindenwood men's hockey team (7-22-1) fell in the final game of the regular season to Alaska Anchorage (8-19-1) by a score of 4-3 in an overtime loss from Anchorage, Alaska.

GAME OVERVIEW
In a tight checking first period, scoring chances were hard to come by. Shots finished 14-7 in favor of Alaska Anchorage as Trent Burnham was strong in the opening period. The first remained scoreless until the one-minute mark when the Seawolves found the back of the net, taking the one-goal advantage into the locker room. In the period, the Lions won 58 percent of the draws.

Anchorage doubled its lead to 2-0 just under five minutes into the middle frame. After the goal, Lindenwood started to settle in, which resulted in some offensive zone pressure. This created the first goal of the night for the Lions as Kabore Dunn sent a wrist shot past the Seawolves netminder, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Ryan Finnegan picked up a helper on the score. Just six seconds later, UAA regained the two-goal lead going up 3-1. Once again, Lindenwood had the response. On the man advantage, David Gagnon pounced on a loose puck for his team leading sixth man advantage tally of the season. He was assisted by Hunter Johannes and Finnegan on the goal that made it 3-2. Lindenwood pushed for the equalizer and got it less just over two minutes later from Zach Aughe who was assisted by Sam Watson and Kieran Ruschienski on the game-tying goal. The score would remain tied 3-3 after 40 minutes of play.

The final frame was all about Burnham and the penalty kill. The Eagle River, Alaska native stopped all 13 shots faced while the special teams killed all three opportunities against, including a five-on-three. Neither team would find the back of the net, meaning the two teams would need overtime for the second straight night.

In the extra session, the Lions started on the penalty kill and were strong. However, just before the man advantage ended, the Seawolves found the back of the net to pick up the 4-3 victory in OT on Saturday night.
