Softball Drops Two Against Tennessee State on Sunday

GAME 1 | Tennessee State 7, Lindenwood 1

ST. CHARLES, Mo. --The Lindenwood (MO) Lions struggled on Sunday, falling to the Tennessee State Lady Tigers 7-1 despite the efforts of sophomore Irelynn West, who went 1-for-4 with a double.

Senior Keighlan Cronin (1-6) started and took the loss in the circle for Lindenwood (MO) (5-13, ).

At the plate, the Lions were led by West, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double. Sophomore Lauren Pelton put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 5-0, the Lions first put runs on the board in the first inning. Junior Whitney Kinser came across to score the lone run of the inning for Lindenwood (MO) and get them on the board. The Lions were unable to get any closer, as Tennessee State added two runs to their tally on the way to a 7-1 final.

GAME NOTES

» Lindenwood's highest scoring inning was the first, when it pushed one run across.
» Lindenwood pitchers faced 35 Tennessee State hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out three.

GAME 2 | Tennessee State 4, Lindenwood 2

The Lindenwood Lions brought a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 4-2 to the Tennessee State Lady Tigers Sunday.

Senior Amanda Weyh (3-4) took the loss in the circle for Lindenwood (MO) (5-14, ). Freshman Avery Wapp started the ballgame and went five innings, surrendering one run on four hits, walking four and striking out two.

Sophomore Irelynn West led the way offensively for the Lions, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double. Senior Morgan Gersch put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a double. Freshman Tori Hatton also contributed, going 1-for-3 for Lindenwood with a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lions got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Lindenwood got an RBI single from Hatton, scoring West from third base.

The Lady Tigers then tied the ballgame at one before the Lions came back to reclaim their advantage in the sixth inning. Sophomore Mya Bethany came across to score the lone run of the inning for Lindenwood (MO), which brought the Lions lead to 2-1. The Lions were unable to hold the lead, as Tennessee State scored three times over the remaining one inning to grab the 4-2 win.
