Baseball Battles Mizzou in 7-5 Loss

ST. CHARLES, Mo. --An outstanding offensive output was not enough for Lindenwood baseball (3-22) on Wednesday, as the Lions were defeated by Missouri (19-6) 7-5 at Lou Brock Sports Complex.

Freshman Carson Subbert was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out three.  Senior Joe Copeland led the way offensively for the Lions, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double, a walk and two RBI.  Junior Tyson Ludwig compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Junior Brett Bowers also helped out, going 1-for-3 for Lindenwood with a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Lions first put runs on the board in the first inning. Sophomore Marcus Heusohn came across to score the lone run of the inning for Lindenwood and get them on the board.

The Lions deficit expanded to 3-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, taking over the lead in the third inning. which brought the Lions lead to 4-3.

Lindenwood's lead had evaporated by the time the seventh inning arrived and turned into a 7-4 Missouri advantage, when the Lions cut that deficit to 7-5. The Lions notched a run on Copeland's two-out RBI double. The Lions were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME NOTES
» Lindenwood's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed three runs across.
» Lindenwood went 4-for-13 (.308) with runners in scoring position.
» Lindenwood pitchers faced 43 Missouri hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and 13 fly balls while striking out five.
» The Lions drew four walks from Missouri pitching.
» Copeland led the Lions at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
» Missouri was led offensively by sophomore Stevens, who went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.
» Freshman Lucas led the Tigers pitching staff, throwing 4.1 innings of one-run ball.

Lindenwood will host Southern Indiana this weekend for a three-game series which is set to start on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
