Softball Splits With Morehead on Sunday

GAME 1 | Lindenwood 4, Morehead State 3

MOREHEAD, Ky. --Freshman Avery Wapp dominated on Sunday, punching out eight Morehead State hitters over six innings of work to help lead the Lindenwood Lions past the Eagles 4-3.

In addition to her eight strikeouts, Wapp (4-4) threw six innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits and walking none for Lindenwood (13-17, 5-5 OVC). Senior Amanda Weyh also made an impact in the circle for the Lions, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Senior Morgan Gersch led the way offensively for the Lions, going 2-for-2 in the ballgame with a double, a home run and four RBI. Sophomore Irelynn West put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double. Freshman Dallis Darnell also helped out, going 1-for-2 for Lindenwood with two walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lions got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Gersch put Lindenwood on the board with a one-out solo home run off sophomore Madi Ogden.

The Eagles failed to push any runs across before the Lions built on their lead in the sixth inning. Gersch's bases-clearing double was the offense in a three-run inning for Lindenwood which brought the Lions lead to 4-0. Morehead State put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Lindenwood still held on for the 4-3 win.

GAME 2 | Morehead State 8, Lindenwood  0

MOREHEAD, Ky. --The Lindenwood Lions were not able to record a run against Morehead State pitcher junior Lennon Spicer on Sunday despite totaling seven hits and were shut out 8-0 by the Eagles.

Freshman Molly Heidrick (1-1) got the ball to start for Lindenwood (13-18, 5-6 OVC) and took the loss.

Offensively, the Lions were led by sophomore Irelynn West, who went 2-for-3 on the day. Sophomore Lauren Pelton put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lindenwood did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Lions went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the fourth, when junior Chloe Honchar made it into scoring position with nobody out.
