SEASON REVIEW
The Lindenwood football team closed out the 2022 season with a 7-3 record, including a 1-3 mark inside conference play. During the year, the Lions played well at home, going 4-1 inside Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The Lions opened the season with two-straight wins, including a thrilling 21-20 victory over Houston Baptist in the season opener.
During the year, Lindenwood set multiple new school records.
Cade Brister is the only player in program history to pass for over 10,000 yards in a Lindenwood uniform, while being the only quarterback to rush for over 1,000 yards in his career. Brister is the only player to be named all-conference by three different leagues.
Payton Rose set the all-time mark for receiving yards in a career with 3,366, while hauling in a program best 38 scores across his four-year career and were part of an offense fourth in NCAA Division I FCS with 509.1 yards per game in 2022.
The Lions accumulated 10 all-conference selections and nine OVC weekly accolades, while
Kobe McClendon was named a Stats Perform FCS Freshman All-American after an impressive 2022 campaign.
Blake Rogenhofer and Rose each earned an invite to NFL minicamp.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Lindenwood opened the season with a thrilling 21-20 victory over Houston Baptist. The Lions blocked a punt with 28 seconds left, which was recovered in the end zone for a game-winning score.
- Three out of the seven victories during the year were by three points or less.
- On October 8, the Lions won a 52-49 shootout over Central Arkansas on the road. The 52 points was the teams third highest total of the year. The team averaged 39.5 points per game this season, tops in the OVC.
- That win sparked a four-game winning streak, including a 37-34 double overtime win against Eastern Illinois the following week. Other wins during that stretch was a 33-18 win over Murray State, seeing the Lions earn their first conference victory. The Lions also cruised past William Jewell.
- Lindenwood ranked atop the conference in seven other categories during the year, including: total offense, pass offense, pass efficiency, first downs per game, third down conversion percentage, time of possession per game, and red zone offense.
- The Lions earned a 63-35 victory over McKendree in the final game of the regular season to send the seniors out on top.
