Field Hockey Falls 3-1 to Bryant in Season Opener

ST. CHARLES, MO. – On a rainy and dreary Saturday afternoon, the Lindenwood field hockey team (0-1) faced off against Bryant University (1-0) in the first competition of the season for both teams. The Lions would fall in this contest by a score of 3-1 to the Bulldogs.

GAME OVERVIEW
Both teams in the first were held scoreless for the first ten minutes of the game. With about five minutes left in the first frame, Bryant would put in the first tally of the game from a shot that was assisted. The Bulldogs would lead 1-0 going into the second period. The second frame was all about defense with both teams going scoreless going into the second half with the Bulldogs leading 1-0.

In the third frame, the Lions would break the scoreless drought, coming from an Alice Van Hemelen shot, assisted by Hailey Bainer. Both teams would remain scoreless until the five-minute mark, where the Bulldogs would score from a penalty shot. The Lions would trail 2-1, going into the final frame of the game.  Ten minutes into the fourth frame, the Bulldogs would put one in the net to seal the victory, to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-1. The Lions would remain scoreless in the fourth period.

Kyla Cooke started in net for the Lions, making seven saves on three goals against.
