CHICAGO, Ill. - Lindenwood men's soccer (0-0-2, 0-0-0 OVC) dropped their second match of the season by a final score of 2-0 against Loyola Chicago (1-0-0, 0-0-0 A-10) in Chicago, Ill. Lions had two shots on goal in the loss.
"Extremely proud of our efforts today. We showed tremendous fighting spirit and went toe to toe with an NCAA Tournament level team for 90 minutes," said head coach Kris Bertsch. "We unfortunately had the chance to go up 1-0 in the second half but hit the post on an open goal breakaway then Loyola immediately punished us the other direction. We created enough opportunities to get a result but in the end we didn't make enough plays. The game came down to a few key moments and credit to Loyola for taking advantage of them."
For the second match in a row, the Lions held their opponent scoreless in the first half of play. Goalkeeper
Enzo Gil had four saves in the first half on 10 shots by the Ramblers. Lindenwood'sÂ
Parker Smith had one shot on goal in the first half but was saved by Loyola's Aidan Crawford.
Loyola Chicago would strike twice in 40 seconds to open up the second half. Markus Maurer had the first goal during the 60th minute that went by Gil in the top right of the net. Benni Hofmann then scored during the 61st minute to extend the Ramblers' lead to 2-0.
Lindenwood had seven of their eight shot attempts in the second half. Loyola Chicago had 19 total shots including seven shots on goal. The Ramblers' also had 10 corner kicks to just two by the Lions.Â
Henrique Peresrelo had the other shot on goal in the second half for the Lions.
Matteo Boasso and Smith both had two shot attempts during the match.
