Football Brings Energy in First Week of Fall Camp

The Lindenwood football team opened fall camp this week.  The Lions will hold an open practice on Saturday, August 19th at 7:00 pm inside Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.

Head Coach Jed Stugart will enter his seventh season as the head of the program this fall, including his 14th overall. Last Season, Stugart guided the Lions to a 7-3 record, including a 4-1 mark inside Hunter Stadium. Lindenwood picked up a thrilling 21-20 road win over Houston Baptist, as they blocked a punt with 28 seconds left, which was recovered in the end zone for a game-winning score. Lindenwood earned another road victory on October 8 in a 52-49 win over Central Arkansas, which was the start of a four-game winning streak. During that stretch, Lindenwood earned its first win inside conference play after defeating Murray State in week six. The Lions received votes in the FCS weekly poll on three different occasions during the year.

"Like every year, the enthusiasm is high coming into the first few days of practice", said Stugart. "We're a fairly young team this year and I'm looking forward to seeing how our team handles the challenges that come with that, especially from a leadership perspective. So far, I'm encouraged we have guys that can step into those roles."

In the recently released Big South-OVC Association Preseason Poll, the Lions were picked seventh, compiling 45 points in the poll. Lindenwood returns five all-conference players from a year ago. Ethan Johnson and Gareth Warren return on the offensive line. The duo was a part of a unit that led the OVC in eight offensive categories last season, including points per game at 39.1. Kobe McClendon who had an outstanding campaign in 2022 which culminated in a FCS Stats Perform All-American nod returns up front on defense.

After receiving first team all-conference honors last season, Darion Bolden will be back for another season in a Lindenwood uniform. A year ago, Bolden notched a pair of interceptions, including a pick-six which he took back 99 yards which tied a school record.  Bolden led the league with 13 pass breakups in his 10 games played.

Last season, Logan Seibert knocked through 11-of-14 field goals, tallying a long of 45 yards.  Seibert was 44-of-47 on extra points, and put up 77 points.

The Lions will face six new Division I opponents in 2023 including two at home. On Thursday, Aug. 31, Lindenwood will open their season at Hunter at 7:00 p.m. against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. After three away games, LU will be back at home on Sept. 30 against Austin Peavy for the Hall of Fame Game.

Tennessee Tech comes to St. Charles on Oct. 7 for the Lions' first home Big South-OVC matchup on Family Day. Lindenwood finishes out the season with two conference matchups against Eastern Illinois (Nov. 4 – Homecoming) and Bryant University (Nov. 11 – Hometown Heroes).
