ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Lindenwood women's volleyball's (6-8, 2-1 OVC) comeback falls shorts as the Skyhawks of UT Martin (3-10, 1-2 OVC) defeated the Lions by a final score of 3-1. Three Lions posted double digit kills including
Nyah Wilson's team-high 15.
"That was a disappointing loss because we felt like we had some exceptional individual performances," said head coach
Will Condon. "Ultimately, it came down to a few plays and points where we made some mistakes."
The Lions held the advantage early in the first set after leading 11-6. UT Martin stormed back late in the first to tie it at 17-17. The Skyhawks eventually took the first set 25-23 after hitting .227 with 14 kills. Freshman
Anna Kraemer led the team with four kills in the set while
Jessie Seidel had nine digs.
UT Martin and Lindenwood went back and forth in the second set resulting in nine ties and six lead changes before UTM rallied to bet LU 25-23. Despite Wilson's five kills in the set, Lindenwood had five service errors which was the difference. LU had eight total service errors in the first two sets combined.
"We missed too many first serves in the net the first two sets and we did better at that as the match progressed," said Condon.
Lindenwood responded in the first set hitting a match best .400 with 19 total kills. Wilson and McAleer led the way with six kills each as the Lions won their lone set by a final score of 25-20. Setter
Allie Otten had 16 of her 30 assists in the third.
The Lions scrapped their way to a close fourth set but fell just shy of forcing a fifth set as UT Martin defeated LU 25-21 to claim their first OVC win of the season. Lindenwood was held to just nine kills in the fourth and a .068 hitting percentage.
Wilson posted her fifth double-double of the season after her 15 kills and 12 digs. McAleer was right behind her with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Rebecca Janke was the third Lion with double digit kills after posting 11 on a .360 hitting percentage. Janke also had four total blocks.
Seidel led the way defensively with 23 digs while also adding two service aces. McAleer had three blocks for Lindenwood while Kramer chipped in eight kills and one block.
