MOUNT PLEASANT, MICH. – On Saturday morning, the Lindenwood field hockey team traveled to Mount Pleasant, Mich., to take on Appalachian State in a neutral site game. The Lions would fall 3-1 to the Mountaineers.
GAME OVERVIEW
In the first period of the match, both teams were held scoreless for the majority of the period. In the 11
th minute the Mountaineers would put one in the back of the net. Strong defense by the Mountaineers would keep the Lions off the scoreboard in the first period. The Mountaineers would lead 1-0, going into the second period. In the second period, the Mountaineers would strike early to gain a quick 2-0 lead. The Lions would go into halftime down 2-0. In the first half, the Lions would have a total of four shots while the Mountaineers had nine.
Leah Brozovich made five saves in the first half.
Moving into the second half, both teams would remain scoreless in the third period, with the Mountaineers leading 2-0 going into the final period. In the fourth period, the Mountaineers would get on the board early and remain scoreless for the rest of the game. The Lions would trail 3-0 to the Mountaineers up to this point. In the 50
th minute of the match,
Alice Van Hemelen would score for the Lions to close the deficit to two. The Lions would eventually fall to the Mountaineers 3-1.
Brozovich would start in net for the Lions making 11 saves on three goals against.
