Women’s Ice Hockey Comes from Behind to Win 4-2 Over RIT

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – On Friday night, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team took on RIT in their first game of the weekend. After falling behind two goals in the first period, the Lions were able to come from behind to win 4-2 over the Tigers.

GAME OVERVIEW
In the first period, RIT was able to control the offensive side of the puck, scoring the only two goals of the period, coming at the 8:30 mark and 16:20 mark in the first frame. Natalie Ferenc would make ten saves in the period, while the Lions on offense had 14 shots on net. Going into the second period, the Lions would trail 2-0.

Starting off the second period, the Lions would score less than a minute into the frame, to close the deficit to one. Rachel Goff would be attributed the goal, which would be assisted by Olivia Grabianowski and Molly Henderson. Nine minutes later, the Lions would tally again to tie the game up at 2-2. Henderson would be attributed the goal assisted by Grabianowski and Quinn McLaren. Going into the final period the Lions would be tied with RIT 2-2. Ferenc in the period made seven saves, while the Lions put 24 shots on net.

In the third period, the Lions would find the back of the net at the 9:49 mark, to gain their first lead of the night. Grabianowski would be given the goal, assisted by Emma Hoen and Henderson. Six minutes later, Sarah Davies would tip a shot into the back of the net to give the Lions a two-goal lead. Goff and Thea Jørgensen would be given assists on Davies' goal. Ferenc in the game made 30 saves.

After this matchup, the Lions moved to 9-13-1 on the season and 4-6-1 in conference play.

QUOTABLE
"We are very proud of our group for fighting back and getting the win today. We came out a little bit slow, giving up two goals in the first period, but we never gave up and focused on the end goal. We are excited to get back at it tomorrow and fight for the series sweep", said head coach Taylor Wasylk.
