MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – On Saturday, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team took on RIT for their second matchup of the weekend. In epic fashion, the Lions would win 3-2 in overtime, to complete the series sweep.
GAME OVERVIEW
Seven minutes into the first period, the Lions were able to find the back of the net to take the early 1-0 lead.
Molly Henderson would be attributed the goal, assisted by
Quinn McLaren and
Olivia Grabianowski. Not more than a minute later,
Morgan Neitzke would score an unassisted goal, scorching it past the RIT goaltender, to extend the Lions lead to two.
Natalie Ferenc would hold RIT scoreless in the first period after making 13 saves. The Lions would lead 2-0, going into the second period.
In the second period, the Tigers were able to find their footing on offense, scoring back-to-back power-play goals at the 4:39 mark and 9:48 mark, to tie the game up at 2-2. The Lions would be held scoreless in the period. At the end of the period, the game would remain square at 2-2. Ferenc would make ten saves in the period.
In the third period, both teams held off the score-sheet, forcing the game to be finished in overtime. Ferenc would make ten saves in the third frame. In overtime, at the 1:30 mark,
Sarah Davies would tap in the game winner from Grabianowski and Henderson.
Natalie Ferenc would make 33 saves on the night.
After this matchup, the Lions moved to 10-13-1 on the season and 5-6-1 in conference play. After the win, the Lions would tie the program record for most wins in a season with ten. This would be the third time in program history the Lions would hit ten wins in a season, with the most recent ten win season coming in the 2017-18 campaign.
