The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (1-4, 0-0 MIVA) dropped a four-set match to Maryville (3-1) on Thursday night in St. Louis, Mo.
MATCH OVERVIEW
Lindenwood found itself down 5-2 early, but eventually battled back to tie the set at 10-10 after an ace from AJ Lewis. The two teams traded points until Maryville went on a mini run to take a 15-12 lead. Once again, the Lions battled back, and would tie the score 19-19 late in the first. It would continue to be a back-and-forth one, but the Saints would earn it at 26-24.
No team led by more than three points in the second set as the score was tied 10-10 early. Maryville would go on a 4-2 run to take a slight lead but Lindenwood pulled it back even at 14-14 after a block from
Clay Wieter and
RaShawn Bonner. The set would continue in back-and forth fashion until the Saints were able to take control late and win the set 25-22 and go up 2-0 in the match.
Maryville started the third set on a 7-0 run. The Lions continued to trail throughout the set but battled back to tie the score 19-19 after a kill from
Kenneth Naples. This set needed a few extra points as Lindenwood was finally able to grab the third at 27-25 after a kill from Wieter, his eighth of the stanza.
Weiter opened the fourth set with another kill which helped Lindenwood jump out to a 3-1 lead. The Saints battled back and took a 12-9 lead. From there, the black and gold went on a 6-1 run, going up 15-13. Maryville worked to tie the set at 20 apiece and took control from there, winning five of the next seven points to earn the fourth 25-22 and the match 3-1. Â
