MANKATO, MINN. – On Friday night, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team took on Minnesota State. Strong offensive play would be the story of the game with the Lions falling to the Mavericks 6-1.
GAME OVERVIEW
In the first period, Minnesota State controlled the offensive zone scoring twice in the period at the 11:47 mark and the 16:43 mark. In the period, the Lions would be held to five shots while Minnesota State had thirteen. Going into the second period, the Mavericks would lead 2-0.
Ava McIllmurray would make eleven stops in the period.
In the second period, the Mavericks would once again score a pair of goals to extend their lead to four. Minnesota State's goals came at the 7:52 and 17:27 mark of the period with their fourth goal of the game, coming off the powerplay. McIllmurray would make eighteen saves in the period and the Lions on the offensive side would have five shots on net. The Lions would trail 4-0 going into the final period.
In the third period, the Mavericks would tally fourteen seconds into the frame. Eight minutes later,
Sidney Jackel would score an unassisted goal to break the Lions scoreless drought. Jackel would tally her third straight game with a point. At this point in the game, the Lions would trail 5-1 with 12:35 left in the game. Less than three minutes later, the Maverick would score the last goal of the game to bring back their lead to five.
After this matchup, Lindenwood falls to 7-11-1 on the season. McIllmurray started in net for the Lions, making 32 saves.
Natalie Ferenc would make an appearance in net, in the latter part of the game, making 10 stops.
