MANKATO, MINN. – On Saturday afternoon, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team took on Minnesota State for the second time of the weekend. In this matchup, the Lions would fall to the Mavericks 4-3, after holding a 2-0 lead going into the second period.
GAME OVERVIEW
In the first period, the Lions would find the back of the net early, coming from a
Rachel Goff shot assisted by
Sarah Davies at the 3:55 mark in the frame. At the 6:42 mark in the period, the Lions would strike again to extend their lead to two.
Quinn McLaren would be attributed the goal assisted by
Molly Henderson. In the period, strong defense by the Lions held the Mavericks off the scoreboard, leading 2-0 going into the first intermission.
Natalie Ferenc would make eight saves in the period and the Lions would have nine shots on target.
In the second period, the Mavericks would find the back of the net at the 4:23 mark, closing their deficit with the Lions to one. For the remainder of the period, both teams were held off the board until the Mavericks put in the equalizer at the 15:34 mark of the frame. Going into the final period, the Lions would be tied with the Mavericks, 2-2.
In the third period, the Mavericks would find the net at the 3:36 mark of the frame, gaining their first lead of the day. Nine minutes later,
Morgan Neitzke would score an unassisted goal to tie the game up at 3-3. Not more than a minute later, the Mavericks would score the eventual game winner.
After this matchup, the Lions moved to 7-12-1 on the season.
