Women's Ice Hockey Goes 1-1 on the Weekend against Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA. – On Friday and Saturday, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team took on Robert Morris. Friday's matchup would be concluded on Saturday due to facility issues, where the Lions fell 4-2. In a wild second game, the Lions would come out victorious over the Colonials 5-3.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
Results: Lindenwood 2, Robert Morris 4

Four minutes into the first period, the Colonials scored to take the early 1-0 lead. For the remainder of the period, strong defense would hold both teams off the scoring column, until Quinn McLaren would find the back of the net at the 18:16 mark of the period. Olivia Grabianowski and Molly Henderson would assist McLaren's goal. At the end of the period, the Lions would be tied 1-1 with the Colonials. Natalie Ferenc would make ten stops in the first frame.

In the second period, the Colonials would once again find the back of the net early in the frame to regain the one goal lead. The Colonials would score two more times before the end of the period, to extend their lead to three. The Lions would trail the Colonials 4-1 going into the final period. Ferenc would make ten stops in the period.

In the third period, scoring did not come easy. Sarah Davies would be the only scorer in the third frame, scoring with one minute and fifty seconds left to close the Lions deficit with the Colonials to two.

Ferenc would make 32 saves in the first game of the weekend.

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
Results: Lindenwood 5, Robert Morris 3

In the first period, Robert Morris would find the back of the net first, at the 9:34 mark. Almost four minutes later, the Lions would strike back, scoring one of their own. Gigi Pora would be attributed the goal, assisted by Sidney Jackel and Thea Jørgensen. At the end of the period, the game would be tied up at 1-1. Ava McIllmurray would make 15 saves in the period.

In the second period, the Colonials would find the back of the net first at the 4:21 mark. The Lions would answer back, scoring two of their own at the 7:08 mark and the 9:52 mark of the frame. Henderson and Grabianowski would be attributed the goals for the Lions, taking their first lead of the game. At 14:48 in the frame, the Colonials would score the final goal of the period, to tie the game up at 3-3. McIllmurray would make ten stops in the period.

In the third period, the Lions would find the back of the net at the 14:52 mark, regaining the one goal lead. Sidney Jackel would be attributed the goal, after making a nifty move past the Colonial's goaltender. In a last-ditch effort, the Colonials would pull their goaltender leading to an empty-net goal from Morgan Neitzke with two seconds left in the game.

After this matchup, the Lions moved to 8-13-1 on the season. McIllmurray would make a total of 37 stops in the win. Neitzke would break the program record in short-handed goals in a season, previously held by Alison Wickenheiser in 2011.

QUOTABLE
"We are very proud of our group for getting the win this evening. It was a bit of a crazy day, but we stay focused and battled every shift to get the win" said head coach Taylor Wasylk.

The Lions will return home to take on RIT on January 19th and 20th.
