MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – On Friday night, women's ice hockey (0-7-1, 0-0-0 AHA) took on Mercyhurst (2-6-1, 0-0-0 AHA), in the Lions conference opener. The Lions would fall to the Lakers 3-1, after giving up three late goals. After the game, Lindenwood moves to 0-8-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood would tally the first goal of the game, scoring with 17.5 seconds left in the first period of play.
Morgan Neitzke would notch the goal for the Lions, scoring from the point, past the goaltender's glove side. Neitzke's goal would be assisted by
Sydney Rarick and
Quinn McLaren. After a period of play Lindenwood would lead 1-0. Mercyhurst would outshoot the Lions on net in the period 14-7.
Anna LaRose would make 14 stops in the frame.
In the second period, both teams were held off the scoresheet. After 40 minutes of play, Lindenwood would still hold the 1-0 lead. In the frame, the Lions had seven shots on net. LaRose would make ten saves in the period.
In the third period, the Lakers would find their first score of the game 7:44 into the period, tying the game up at 1-1. The Lakers first score would come while on the power-play. Almost five minutes later, Mercyhurst found their first lead of the night, scoring while even strength. Mercyhurst's third goal would come while the Lions net was empty at 18:41 into the frame, extending the Lakers lead to two. Lindenwood would have nine shots on target in the period. LaRose would make nine stops in the final period, for a total of 33 on the night.
