Women's Ice Hockey Defeats Mercyhurst 2-1

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – On Saturday, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey program (0-7-1, 0-1-0 AHA) took on Mercyhurst (3-6-1, 1-0-0 AHA) for game two of two against the Lakers. The Lions would come out on top, winning 2-1, with the Lions improving to 1-7-1 on the campaign, and 1-1-0 in conference. This would be the first win over the Lakers since the 2021-22 season.
 
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood would find the back of the net first, scoring 7:27 into the first frame. Paige Cline would be attributed the goal, scoring off a rebound while even strength. This would be Cline's first goal as a Lion. Cline's goal would be assisted by Hannah Dods and Lucie Quarto. Lindenwood would hold Mercyhurst scoreless in the first frame, resulting in the Lions leading 1-0 after one period of play. In the period, Lindenwood had ten shots on net. Anna LaRose would make 12 saves in the first frame of play.

In period two, Mercyhurst would break their scoreless drought, scoring the only goal in the period, to tie the game up at 1-1. In the period, Lindenwood had seven shots on net. LaRose would make 21 saves in the period.

In period three, Gigi Pora would score the game-winner for the Lions on a wrap-around shot, from behind the net, 5:42 into the period. Pora's goal would come while on the power-play and would be her first goal of the season. Pora's goal would be assisted by Morgan Neitzke and Sydney Rarick. Lindenwood in the final period would have seven shots on net for a total of 24 in the game. LaRose would make nine saves in the final period, for a total of 42 saves on the afternoon.

"We are very proud of our group for coming out and getting the win this afternoon. We have been playing well the last two weeks and it finally all came together for us today. We are trending in the right direction, and are looking forward to getting back into AHA play in two weeks," said head coach Taylor Wasylk.
