UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – On Friday afternoon, women's ice hockey (2-9-1, 1-1-0 AHA) took on #12 Penn State (9-3-0, 2-0-0 AHA). The Lions would fall to the nationally ranked Nittany Lions 3-2 in overtime after coming from behind to force OT.
GAME OVERVIEW
In the first period, Penn State would score the first goal of the contest at 12:54, while on the power-play. Not more than three minutes later,
Sidney Jackel would tie the game up at 1-1, scoring off a rebound at 15:20 into the period, while on the power-play. Jackel's goal would be assisted by
Morgan Neitzke and
Josey Dunne. After a period of play, Lindenwood would be tied with Penn State at 1-1. Lindenwood would have three shots on net in the period.
Anna LaRose would make seven saves in the period.
In the second period, Penn State would regain their one-goal lead just 58 seconds into the period. For the remainder of the period, both teams would be held off the scoresheet, resulting in the Nittany Lions leading 2-1 after 40 minutes of play. In the frame, Lindenwood had four shots on net. In the third period, Lindenwood looking to tie the game would succeed with 1:29 left in the frame. With 1:29 left in the period, Neitzke would score on a breakaway to tie the game up at 2-2. Neitzke's goal would be assisted by
Olivia Grabianowski. Lindenwood would hold Penn State scoreless for the remainder of the period, forcing overtime. In the third period, Lindenwood would have three shots on net for a total of ten on the afternoon. LaRose would make eleven stops in the period.
In overtime, Penn State would score 2:09 into the period. LaRose would make five stops in overtime, for 48 saves on the afternoon. After the contest, Lindenwood moves to 2-10-2 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play.
