Women's Volleyball's Comeback Falls Short On Senior Day

Four Lions posted double-digit kills in the loss

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Lindenwood women's volleyball (18-10, 12-4 OVC) was unable to secure the reverse sweep against Southeast Missouri State (16-12, 13-3 OVC) as they fall 2-3 on Friday during senior night. Lindenwood posted 64 kills in the loss and hit .194 through five sets. This also marked the first home loss for the Lions (10-1).

Freshman Autumn Bax led the way for the Lions after scoring 16 kills on 45 swings while hitting .200. Rebecca Janke was able to hit 15 kills with just one attack error on 35 attempts while hitting .400. Janke leads the conference in hitting percentage this season with a .356 average.

Ashley Geluck in the middle of the offense had 12 kills for her second consecutive match with over 10+ kills. Geluck also had four blocks including three solo. Addy McAleer against her former school also had 11 kills and 16 digs while adding two aces.

Allie Otten made Lindenwood history on Friday becoming the all-time leader in school history in assists with her 3,232nd during the fourth set. Otten ended the match with 52 assists while helping LU hit .194. She has now posted six 50+ assists matches this season including three straight. Otten also had 14 digs for a double-double.

Fifth-year senior Jessie Seidel has had three straight matches with over 30 digs after collecting 30 on Friday. She was one of five Lions to have over 10 digs including 15 from Nyah Wilson who had eight kills offensively.

SEMO took the first set in Hyland Arena by a score of 25-20. There were 14 ties and eight lead changes to start the match. The Redhawks scored five straight points to secure te set win. Lindenwood had 11 kills and seven errors in the first including four kills from Rebecca Janke. SEMO hit .225 in the first set.

The Redhawks would go up 2-0 against Lindenwood in the second set by a score of 25-16. Lindenwood was held to .150 hitting with only 12 kills while SEMO hit .270 with 13. Bax had four of her kills in the second while Seidel added seven digs.

Lindenwood's comeback started in the third set with a big 25-23 win. After the 23-23 tie, Janke added a kill and was followed by one of McAleer's ace to pick up LU's first set win. Bax and Janke both had six kills in the set while Geluck added five. Otten assisted on 18 of Lindenwood's 20 kills in the set.

The Lions evened the match and forced a set five after a dominate 25-16 win. Lindenwood held the Redhawks to a .098 hitting percentage in the fourth while Lindenwood had 17 kills while hitting a match-high .277. McAleer had her best set with six kills in the fourth. Dana Grib added nine of her 16 digs in the frame.

The fifth and final set came to a close as the Lions fell behind 5-0 early, and could not climb their way back. SEMO eventually took the set and match by a final score of 15-10. The Redhawks had 10 kills in the final frame while Lindenwood was held to .050 hitting. Lindenwood is now in second place in the OVC with a 12-4 conference record.

Lindenwood will end their regular season next Tuesday, Nov. 19th in Little Rock, Ark. to take on the Trojans for the final two matches of the season before the Ohio Valley Conference tournament. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
