The Lindenwood men's ice hockey team fell 4-2 to the Stonehill Skyhawks on Saturday evening.
"Anyone can win in college hockey and tonight was a loss that will be visible for a long time," said Head Coach Rick Zombo.
With a scoreless first period, both teams came out ready to battle in the second frame. Stonehill scored first in the second, but Aiden Yakimchuk scored unassisted at 13:41 to tie the score at 1-1. The final 20-minutes were intense as both teams fought for the advantage. The Skyhawks scored twice before David Gagnon scored at 18:38, to bring the Lions within one of Stonehill. At 19:21.5, a goal by the Skyhawks sealed the contest, 4-2.
Trent Burnham allowed three goals, (final SC goal was an empty net goal) while recording 23 saves.
The Lions will return home to host University of Alaska Anchorage on February 16th and 17. Friday's puck drop is 7:10 pm, while Saturday's is 6:00 pm.
